On December 13, 2021, the Kenowa Hills Board of Education approved a Resolution to Authorize a Sex Education Advisory Board in Accordance with the Revised School Code P.A. 451 of 1976, MCL §380.1507
In Michigan, sexual education is determined at the local level by a Sexual Education Advisory Board and the school board. This resolution improves Kenowa Hills processes and helps the public see how curriculum recommendations are made, offering them the ability to apply and be part of the SEAB. The law requires that the SEAB includes parent members, students, educators, local clergy, and community health professionals. The Board of Education has asked that the SEAB considers curriculum recommendations that include comprehensive sexuality education that is medically accurate and age-appropriate, as well as information about sexual assault and dating violence and the prevention thereof. Applications for the Sex Education Advisory Board will be accepted by the Superintendent in January 2022. The SEAB will meet during the spring to prepare recommendations for the school board. A link will be provided when available. Comments are closed.
